Description : Haugesund municipality: Risøy.
Risøy is a town centre district in Haugesund. The island has a shipbuilding industry, which is one of the town and region's most important workplaces, and older housing of very varying standards. The island has an important terminal function for local ferry transport and visiting cruise ships. Risøy is, in many ways, Haugesund's entrance port from the sea, and is therefore important for first impressions of the town from outside. The district is currently characterised by lasting living conditions challenges and has a maintenance and upgrade lag of both houses and urban spaces. Risøy is a strong identity marker for the centre and has great potential as an attractive residential area with a strong location identity, and as an important part of the town's further development. The municipality would like ideas and strategies here for how the town district can be revitalised through a sensitive approach to the location's urban infrastructure and ecological, social, and economic sustainability.
