Description:
Energy wells in the Valley of Death - Well drilling Background to the acquisition As part of the development of the future energy system at Gløshaugen, NTNU plans to establish a seasonal thermal energy storage (GeoTermos) in Dødens dal. The solution must store excess heat from the summer half and supply heat back in the winter period. The project includes the establishment of a well park with around 100 energy wells (approx. 200 m deep) as well as associated pipe and distribution solutions. The facility will be connected to new buildings and a low temperature network. The project has several specific challenges: • establishment in an area with demanding ground conditions (quick clay) • requirements for high operational reliability and long service life • storage and operation at relatively high temperatures (up to 50-60 °C) • need for good insulation through the loose mass layers • interaction with other energy systems on campus NTNU therefore wants dialogue with the market before choosing a final solution and implementation model.
