• Feasibility study in a selection of fisheries-dependent municipalities in Nordland In December 2025, Nordland County Council dealt with the case Follow-up of a report on the consequences of quota reductions in the fishing industry (FT case 150/2025). The county council took the report Kunnskapsgrunlag on the effects of fishing quota reductions in Nordland (KPB and Oslo Economics, 2025) for information and emphasized that fishing communities and regions in Nordland are affected differently by the quota reductions, and that this should be elucidated in further work. Furthermore expressed the county council supports the use of regional restructuring funds to implement measures aimed at fishing-dependent coastal communities. Conditions for the use of restructuring funds are defined in the Regulations on subsidy schemes for restructuring and development in areas with special district challenges. The report from 2025 provides an overall and comprehensive knowledge base on the consequences of quota reductions for the fishing industry in Nordland. At the same time, there is a need for more area-based and practically oriented work, where local conditions, strengths and development opportunities are analyzed in more detail, and where politicians, various specialist areas in the municipal administration and local business are actively involved. The quota reductions have different effects between regions and municipalities. For example, outermost island communities and municipalities with a high degree of dependence on fisheries and seasonal agricultural industry face different challenges than societies with a more diversified business life.
