Description:
Vestland County has initiated the planning work for the erection of a new bridge over Alversundet. A new bridge shall be constructed parallel to the north side of the existing bridge, and existing roads on both sides of the bridge shall be reconstructed. The background for the project is that the existing bridge is in bad condition, and i.a. only have one lane of light regulation. The zoning plan for the new bridge is at a hearing and is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2024. The bridge type has not yet been determined for the new bridge, and both the suspension bridge, the sloping bridge with two towers and a boge bridge are relevant. The free-frame bridge and sloping bridge with one tower are, however, not relevant. Actual bridge types are described in more detail in the document "Vegplan, ny Alversund bridge" on the project ́s website. Furthermore, the new bridge is required to "fit aesthetically" into the area, as the bridge shall be built near the middle-age churchestad at Alversund church. Vestland County shall, in connection with the project, procure a turnkey contractor for the detailed engineering design services for and the construction of a new Alversund bridge, including the demolition of the existing bridge. The contracting authority envisages that the project shall be partnering with a turnkey contract in order to optimise, among other things, the choice of bridge type and design.
