Survey of river races and preparation of the action plan for nature -based erosion protection in the Aulivassdraget
The background for assignment supply of particles from the watercourses, together with nutrient supply and overfishing, is among the main causes of the poor condition of the Oslofjord. River erosion, a natural process that shapes the landscape over thousands of years, has been intensified by climate change and changes in land use. Increased rainfall in a shorter time, more dense surfaces and some agricultural operating methods (surface logging, effective drainage of fields, etc.) reinforces the water forces in the watercourses, leading to increased erosion and slurry of the fjord. This creates an unstable environment in both watercourses and fjords, and challenges aquatic organisms, which are struggling to adapt to a constantly changing habitat. According to calculations from NVE in 2013, the river and slope erosion in the Aulivassdraget is around 5,600 tonnes per year- corresponding to the content of approximately 500 large trucks.
