Description:
For many years, DSA has had a close collaboration with its sister organization in Ukraine (SNRIU). After the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022, this cooperation has intensified. The intensification started as a result of the government's commitments to assist Ukraine through civil and military supportm "Nansen programme", which was started last year. Cooperation on nuclear safety is part of this programme. The purpose of DSA's cooperation is, among other things, to strengthen the nuclear safety authority in Ukraine's ability to reduce the risk of incidents and emissions and to contribute to ensuring that they have a satisfactory emergency preparedness systemtem in place in the event of a serious incident at the nuclear installations. In DSA's dialogue with SNRIU, there has been a desire to provide a decision support tool, ARGOS (Accident Reporting and Guiding Operational System). In the ARGOS consortium there are approx. 16 countries, including Nordic nuclear preparedness authoritiesthe ights. In ARGOS, emission dispersion models can be used, which calculate radioactive environmental emissions in real or simulated weather data. This can then be used to calculate impact assessments and forecasts for the population and the environment. Competent authorities can use the results for emergency planningand measures. DSA uses ARGOS (together with emission dispersion model) for nuclear preparedness analyzes and measures. Ukraine has shown interest in becoming a member of the ARGOS consortium to strengthen its nuclear preparedness and acquire ARGOS tools.
