Description : Jernbanedirektoratet uses a large degree of strategic timetable planning in our network planning activities, and we need a timetable planning tool that is suitable for the development, evaluation, and refinement of strategic timetables. Such long term route planning is different from tactical and operative route planning as the network infrastructure is not necessarily given, and the basis is not railway applications from a railway company, but service requirements based on transport demand prognoses and political policies.
Jernbanedirektoratet also needs to evaluate both the current network use and the quality of possible future timetables, both analytically on a macroscopic network and through railway traffic simulations on a microscopic infrastructure model. The analyses can either be carried out in the same tool (suite) as the timetable planning, or in a separate tool as long as seamless data exchange is ensured between the tools. Jernbanedirektoratet uses railML® for data exchange.
