The building will be subordinate to and be designed on the cultural landscape and the historic cultural monument environment-s terms without significant distant effect. Urnes stavkirke [Urnes Stave Church] will still be the primary landmark, and the world heritage centre will have atoned-down appearance in the fjord landscape. The centre will relieve the stave church as a visitor attraction and contribute to sustainable management of the world heritage Urnes stave church and cultural environment it is part of. The world heritage centre will regulate and limit arrival to the stave church based on a sustainable visitor level. It will give visitors comprehensive knowledge about Urnes world heritage and function as a stand-alone and multi-faceted visitor offer.
