Water supply in Longyearbyen - Concept selection study (KVU) for a future solution Longyearbyen is facing a comprehensive upgrade of its water supply. Water quality has been challenging over several years, and there is a need to strengthen both water quality, security of supply and extinguishing water capacity. The situation worsened further in September 2025, when very high manganese values were recorded in Isdammen, which led to a recommendation not to drink the water and the establishment of an emergency water supply. the procurement is to get assistance to carry out a concept selection study (KVU) for a future solution for water supply in Longyearbyen. The investigation must provide a decision-making basis for choosing the main solution for the water supply, so that the project can proceed to preliminary project, engineering and construction of necessary facilities, especially reserve water supply.
